HISTORY OF PERSIS PESANTREN Formation of Traditions. Adaptation, and Change As the author said, this book was originally an Author's Thesis which was maintained at the Department of History, Faculty of Culture, Padjadjaran University (Unpad) in 2002. It was published as a book in 2012 by the Islamic Defenders Publisher, Jakarta. In 2023, this book is now republished by Persis Press Publisher as a revised and expanded edition. It is said that this is because in the 2012 edition, the book that was published really only published what was in the thesis without any significant changes to its content. In this edition, the most notable change is the addition of the analysis time span until 2022, while in the old edition the analysis time span is only up to 1983. The analysis in the old edition aims to show that there has been the formation of a distinctive tradition in the implementation of the "Pesantren Persis", especially curricularly. After 1983 to 2022 in a span of about 40 years, this tradition developed to various regions and experienced dynamics and changes. However, the analysis was carried out globally according to the structure of the old writing. The additional analysis in this book, in addition to being sourced from the author's experience and observations for almost 20 years involved in teaching and managing education at Persis, is also greatly inspired by Dr. Dedeng Rosyidin, both from his dissertation on the formal education system of the Islamic Union published in 2007, as well as from his explanations about the structure of the Persis curriculum from time to time in various seminars and discussions that the author participated in are very helpful in explaining Where is education headed Persis. In addition, data from him in the form of data on the structure of lessons at Islamic boarding schools and Persis schools from 1936 to 2016 is also attached to this book.
